Spring Cleanse: What Is The Best Way To Detox?

spring cleanse detoxification program
Spring is the perfect time to embark on a bodily cleanse or to detox your body. You detox your body for many reasons:
  • Detox to quit smoking
  • Detox to quit drinking
  • Detox to lose weight
  • Detox to improve your mood
  • Detox to increase your energy
  • Detox to improve your health
But, what is the best way to cleanse, or detox, your body?

As Dr. Oz points out, "the body has its own extraordinary internal detoxification system. Here’s a brief look at three critical organs involved:

The liver: Your first line of defense against toxins is your liver, which acts like a filter in preventing toxic substances contained in foods from passing into your blood stream.

The colon: This organ has bacteria that produce both healthy and unhealthy chemicals. You want to keep your colon flowing regularly since its main role is to flush out toxic chemicals before they can do you any harm.

The kidneys: Like clockwork, the kidneys are constantly filtering your blood and getting rid of toxins in the form of urine.

For a detox diet to truly work, you need to maintain these three key organs."

I absolutely agree with Dr. Oz! But, I have a few helpful tools to add to his detox diet recommendations to support these three critical organs.

First, take the enema series. Take one a day for a week, then every other day for a week, then once a week for a month. The enema series, using therapeutic enema solutions like essential oils, Celtic Sea Salt and coffee, is an effective way to keep your colon flowing regularly and assists the colon to optimize for healthy bacteria. The enema series is also an effective way to help your liver with its incredibly important job.

BUY ENEMA EQUIPMENT

Second, drink 1 ounce of therapeutic water per pound of body weight throughout the day. You don’t need to buy expensive drinking water. Simply use filtered tap water, add a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt to each quart and a few drops of essential oils such as Tangerine, Orange, Citrus Fresh, or Peppermint. Drinking therapeutic water is essential for supporting all three organs.

Third, take the binding agent chlorophyll during the detox process. The work of clearing stored toxins from the body can easily overload the liver, colon, and kidneys. Toxins take time to build up in the body. Again, as he states, "the body has its own extraordinary internal detoxification system!" The body is designed to be able to detoxify on a moment-to-moment basis. It is the build-up of toxins that we address when we embark on a detox program. Toxins took a long time to build up in your body; the most important factor with a detox is to take plenty of time and support your detoxification organs so you make certain you don’t just stir up toxins, which can cause toxins to drive deeper into the body leading to cancer, heart disease, fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity, and more.

Oral Colon Cleansing vs. Enemas for Safe Colon Cleansing

Effective and regular colon cleansing works wonders in the body. It can improve detoxification processes; encourage optimal levels of healthy bacteria such as bifidus; discourage the growth of unhealthy bacteria such as c. dificile and yeast; support the liver to filter viruses, bacteria, and other poisons; increase bile production, which aids in both detoxification and digestion; assist the body to heal from cancer; and more. In other words, using the colon cleanse effectively and regularly "lightens the load" for the entire body.

How to cleanse the colon is a controversial subject even though colon cleansing is an excellent overall support for the body. Historically, the enema was the favored method to cleanse the colon. A client, who has worked as a nurse for years, recently recounted her stories of giving enemas in hospitals:

"The doctors called the enema 'the 3H.' I was told to give patients 'the 3H' all day, every day - high, hot, and heck of a lot!"

Now, even in hospitals, most people address this question of how to colon cleanse by using colon cleanse products such as DrNatura's Colonix or Walgreen's Super Colon Detox Laxative Capsules.

Unfortunately, many people have intolerances, or hypersensivity issues, with various compounds found in colon cleanse products that put a strain on one or more of the body's organs and systems. For instance, many colon cleanse products contain licorice. Licorice raises blood pressure. People with high blood pressure should not take licorice. Another colon cleanse product, senna, contains chemicals called sennosides, which irritate the lining of the bowel and for some lead to irritable bowel and leaky gut.

The enema, or in-home colon cleanse, does not lead to these same complications. Nobody is intolerant to water. Unlike many colon cleanse products, the enema:
  • does not harm the nervous system
  • does not discolor the colon or cause Melanosis coli
  • does not weaken the colonic musculature
  • does not cause dependency
  • is usually less expensive
  • works immediately
  • acts therapeutically on the liver, gallbladder, and entire circulatory and detoxification systems
  • is historically proven
  • is scientifically proven to be the most effective method of delivering therapeutics such as frankincense into the body
  • helps the body shed a cold or the flu more quickly

Enhance Your Intestinal Cleanse with Essential Oils

Every day we get calls at the Optimal Health Network asking us how to improve the colon cleanse enema experience.

First let's ask, what are the goals of a colon cleanse?

A successful colon cleanse clears out the entire colon, supports the liver in its efforts to detoxify the body, encourages tissue repair, neutralizes toxins, feeds the healthy flora in the colon, and kills Candida and other parasitic organisms.

An enema series can meet all these goals when you are able to:

1. Clear out the entire colon using 3 enemas in a series.

2. Use OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend in the second enema in the series.

3. Take a coffee enema as the third enema in the series in order to support the liver and increase your body's antioxidant production.

We have written much about the benefits of the enema series and the coffee enema. However, adding OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend to your enema solution is new and does offer greater benefit to the body when used in the enema series.

The combination of oils in OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend -- citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, melaleuca, lavender, and myrtle -- are shown to act together to encourage tissue repair, neutralize toxins, feed the healthy flora in the colon, and kill Candida and other parasitic organisms! These oils can also kill a flu bug before you even know you have it, reduce overall inflammation in the body, and improve metabolism.

We can confidently offer that by adding 3-5 drops of OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend to your enema series, you will improve your colon cleanse enema experience.

History of Enemas: A Safe and Healthy Colon Cleanse Method

I went to my first estate sale ever! It was a blast. My daughter and I ran into it as we were going to Whole Foods to eat dinner. We had just bought our new house and we couldn’t resist. We found 4 wool rugs in excellent condition, vintage cut glass crystal, Christmas ornaments and an antique silver bed warmer.

Chris, the gentleman running the estate sale, and I got to talking. I discovered that he has been doing estate sales for years; he pondered that perhaps he has conducted as many as 1000 estate sales. Finding this out, I told him I am a colon hydrotherapist and help people to take enemas and get set up with enema equipment. His face lit up. He then told me about all the enema equipment, old enema cans and very odd types of enema devices that he runs into.

He said, with confidence, that 95% of the homes that he has conducted an estate sale in for the elderly have had at least one piece of enema equipment, if not two. He continued, "The oldest device that I came across in my estate sale adventures for the irrigation of, or the cleansing of the lower intestines, would be a device made out of a goat skin bladder, burlap, a copper reservoir and various intake and output rubber lines that had some type of cloth coating that was badly deteriorated. This device came out of a physician’s home for an estate sale that I did in Watertown and I would say it dates pre-1900."

Before the popularization of laxatives as a colon cleanser, most everyone used an enema. Enemas work. Regular enemas are healthier for the body than regular use of laxatives when colon cleansing. Looking to the history of the enema can assist us to trust the enema as a healthy and safe colon cleanse method.
