Intermittent Fasting (What Is the Best Time of Day to Fast?)

Different types of fasting, including intermittent fasting, conducted due to lifestyle, religious practices, or availability of food, have been common in many parts of the world throughout human history.

Intermittent fasting (IF) has grown in popularity as a health trend for those wanting to lose weight, improve metabolic health, improve blood pressure, reduce risk of diabetes, or improve overall health.

According to Johns Hopkins neuroscientist Mark Mattson, Ph.D., "Many things happen during intermittent fasting that can protect organs against chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, age-related neurodegenerative disorders, even inflammatory bowel disease and many cancers."

Intermittent fasting is a pattern of eating that includes both periods of fasting and periods of normal eating. IF specifies when you should eat, unlike traditional diets, which specify mostly what you should eat.

However, what you eat is still very important while intermittent fasting. I recommend following the dietary guidelines laid out in my Ten Days to Optimal Health program in conjunction with your intermittent fasting program.

Ten Days to Optimal Health My health program includes a 5-day fasting program, done alongside colon cleansing and using the Vit-Ra-Tox Kit. I recommend doing this program 3-6 times per year to detoxify the body.

Intermittent fasting is not recommended for everyone, including those with a history of eating disorders, those under the age of 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with diabetes or blood sugar problems, or those with other underlying health conditions. Please consult with your doctor if you are unsure whether intermittent fasting is right for you.

Detoxing During End Stage Cancer: Questions on Hair Analysis and the Enema Series

By Kristina Amelong

Recent correspondence from a client:

"Can hair analysis [HTMA] still be helpful with an end stage cancer diagnosis? I was diagnosed 12/22/17 with stage IVB [metastatic] colon cancer. They gave me 6 months or less. No cure. I have refused traditional treatment and am trying my best to help my body help itself while I trust my maker to be my healer. I am juicing 64 oz daily along with supplements and a raw diet including raw milk products. I am beginning sauna time and seeking potentially intravenous vitamin C. Detoxing is exhausting! Your site has helped me a great deal to improve my coffee enemas, though I wonder is it OK to do two series daily? I am interested to know if the hair analysis would offer helpful info at this point. I would appreciate any thoughts you may offer."

My response:

"Wow! What a journey. My blessings to you.

Yes, absolutely the HTMA can be a useful resource in working with your body.

It is fine to do two enema series daily, as long as you feel better or the same, and not worse for more than a couple hours. Do rest from that cycle every couple weeks.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance."

Sample Health Consultation with Kristina Amelong

Kristina AmelongAfter reading my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health, Rebecka wanted more hands-on support.

During the phone consultation (lasting an hour and twenty minutes), we documented the details of Rebecka's health journey and developed an understanding of her deeper health goals. The core issues that emerged in this consultation were her struggles around binge eating, how to best fulfill both her physiological and emotional needs for food, a plan to recover from multiple chemical and food sensitivities, keeping her blood sugar balanced, and her need to develop a gentle, but powerful, in-home colon cleanse program.

1. OVERALL PHILOSOPHY or, "When you feel confused, what are your prime directives?"
  • Eat every 2-3 hours
  • No gluten grains or sugary foods
  • Find foods you love and give you a deep sense of fulfillment
  • Keep your blood sugar stable by balancing small amounts of carbohydrates with small amounts of protein and fat each time you eat

SAMPLE DAILY DIET:

Throughout the day:
  • 60-70 oz of alkaline water

Organic Coconut Oil 6:30 a.m.
  • 4 oz of beef or chicken with cup of bone broth as a soup
  • 1-2 T of coconut oil
  • 6 oz of non-starchy vegetables
  • Sauerkraut juice
  • Homemade sour cream made in yogurt maker

9:30 a.m.
  • 8 oz of GT's Kombucha
  • Animal protein such as smoked salmon, sardines, or raw or rare buffalo or bison

12 p.m.
  • Piece of fruit, or 1/2 cup of applesauce, or 1 cup of vegetable and/or fruit juice (carrot, lemon, spinach, parsley, apple, garlic, for instance)
  • 2 oz of beef or chicken with cup of bone broth as a soup
  • 1-2 T of coconut oil
  • 6 oz of non-starchy vegetable (only if needed)
  • Sauerkraut juice (only if needed)
  • Homemade sour cream made in yogurt maker (only if needed)

3:00 p.m.
  • Winter squash with coconut oil and Celtic Sea Salt
  • Smoked salmon or canned fish
6:00 p.m.
  • Steak or another dinner meat
  • 6 oz of non-starchy vegetables (only if needed)
  • Second half of the kombucha

Other possible snacks:
  • fermented vegetables with black bean chips
  • grated, raw carrot salad with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and lemon

2. ONGOING QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE:
  • Liver: how do we recover liver health?
  • Adrenal glands: how do we recover adrenal health?
We began to support Rebecka's liver and adrenal glands with a OHN REAL Herbal Tonic containing rehmannia, echinacea, ashwagandha, and licorice root. This herbal formula addresses adrenal health, afternoon cravings, waking at 1 a.m., blood sugar regulation, pancreatic restoration, bowel health, immunity, and bacterial and parasitic issues.
  • Take 1 tsp with breakfast, 1 tsp with 9:30 a.m. snack, and 1 tsp with lunch

3. TAKE AN ENEMA SERIES TWICE WEEKLY and USE ESSENTIAL OIL SUPPOSITORIES 3-5 TIMES WEEKLY

For the first enema in the series, rotate the two made-for-enema soaps. During week one, use the Frankincense and Myrrh Goat Milk Soap; during week two, use the Chamomile and Clary Sage Goat Milk Soap.

For the second enema in the series, rotate lavender, Thieves, Raven, Di-Gize, OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend, ImmuPower, Melrose, and Aroma Siez essential oils. Use the Body Feedback Method for determining which oil or oil blend would work best for you each week.

For the third enema in the series, take a coffee enema using 1-2 cups of water and 1 tsp. of made-for-enema coffee.

Three to five times per week, on the days you have not taken an enema, use the same oil or oil blend in a suppository at bedtime.

If you need this level of individual support,
I would be honored to work with you!

More on How to Detox

How do people know or recognize the signs that they have dangerous toxins stored in their bodies?

If you are living in this century, on Earth, it is very likely that you need to detoxify your body. Most people are not aware of their toxicity levels because we are polluted over time and we slowly forget what it feels like to be healthy and energetic. A certain signal that we need to cleanse is when we are diagnosed with a chronic disorder, like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, fibroids, arthritis, fibromyalgia, or chronic fatigue. For many of us, frequent bouts of gas, bloating, or feeling run down are certain signals from our body that we need to detoxify. Even with no symptoms, aging itself reduces our body’s ability to detoxify. And, unfortunately, our world is getting more toxic everyday. If you wish to determine which toxins are stored in your individual body, use a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis.

What happens when you detoxify?

Daily living tends to drive toxins and diseases further into your body, while cleansing and healing lets these wastes and diseases surface and leave your body. Toxins and illness leave your body via your skin, your lymphatic system, your lungs, your colon, and your urinary tract. A classic cleansing response is seen when people quit smoking and they end up having a few "colds." Often, the symptoms are not of a cold virus at all, but rather the body’s way of throwing off the toxins accumulated in the body. Within all the phlegm leaving the body are many of the toxic, carcinogenic residues of cigarette smoking. This cleansing response happens for many, but not all. For all people, however, a DETOXIFYING PROGRAM BRINGS BETTER HEALTH. I have worked with thousands of clients since I became a colon hydrotherapist and I can most definitively say this is absolutely true: a DETOXIFYING PROGRAM BRINGS BETTER HEALTH.

However, as my last blog post speaks to, how you choose to detox is critical to the useful of any individual detox program.

Spring Cleanse: What Is The Best Way To Detox?

spring cleanse detoxification program
Spring is the perfect time to embark on a bodily cleanse or to detox your body. You detox your body for many reasons:
  • Detox to quit smoking
  • Detox to quit drinking
  • Detox to lose weight
  • Detox to improve your mood
  • Detox to increase your energy
  • Detox to improve your health
But, what is the best way to cleanse, or detox, your body?

As Dr. Oz points out, "the body has its own extraordinary internal detoxification system. Here’s a brief look at three critical organs involved:

The liver: Your first line of defense against toxins is your liver, which acts like a filter in preventing toxic substances contained in foods from passing into your blood stream.

The colon: This organ has bacteria that produce both healthy and unhealthy chemicals. You want to keep your colon flowing regularly since its main role is to flush out toxic chemicals before they can do you any harm.

The kidneys: Like clockwork, the kidneys are constantly filtering your blood and getting rid of toxins in the form of urine.

For a detox diet to truly work, you need to maintain these three key organs."

I absolutely agree with Dr. Oz! But, I have a few helpful tools to add to his detox diet recommendations to support these three critical organs.

First, take the enema series. Take one a day for a week, then every other day for a week, then once a week for a month. The enema series, using therapeutic enema solutions like essential oils, Celtic Sea Salt and coffee, is an effective way to keep your colon flowing regularly and assists the colon to optimize for healthy bacteria. The enema series is also an effective way to help your liver with its incredibly important job.

BUY ENEMA EQUIPMENT

Second, drink 1 ounce of therapeutic water per pound of body weight throughout the day. You don’t need to buy expensive drinking water. Simply use filtered tap water, add a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt to each quart and a few drops of essential oils such as Tangerine, Orange, Citrus Fresh, or Peppermint. Drinking therapeutic water is essential for supporting all three organs.

Third, take the binding agent chlorophyll during the detox process. The work of clearing stored toxins from the body can easily overload the liver, colon, and kidneys. Toxins take time to build up in the body. Again, as he states, "the body has its own extraordinary internal detoxification system!" The body is designed to be able to detoxify on a moment-to-moment basis. It is the build-up of toxins that we address when we embark on a detox program. Toxins took a long time to build up in your body; the most important factor with a detox is to take plenty of time and support your detoxification organs so you make certain you don’t just stir up toxins, which can cause toxins to drive deeper into the body leading to cancer, heart disease, fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity, and more.
