How to Stop Hair Loss and Regenerate New Hair With Essential Oils

Hair loss can occur for a variety of reasons, ranging from imbalanced hormones and stress to chemical damage to seemingly genetic factors. Fortunately, there is a chance you can stop hair loss and potentially regenerate new hair with essential oils and scalp massage.

Research Studies for Thyme, Rosemary, Lavender, and Cedarwood Essential Oils:

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Hair Loss Study In 1998, Scottish dermatologist Dr. Isabelle C. Hay and a team of researchers from the Department of Dermatology at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary studied the effect of essential oils on 86 patients who suffered from hair loss. The double-blind, controlled study took place over a seven month active period with follow-ups at three and seven months after the treatment.

Researchers divided the 86 patients into two groups – active and control. Over a seven-month period, the active group massaged an essential oil recipe onto their scalps daily for two minutes. The control group used the carrier oils jojoba and grapeseed only.

Dr. Hay and the research team found that essential oils safely stop hair loss as well as stimulate hair growth.
  • 19 of the 43 patients in the active group demonstrated significant improved hair growth.
  • Only 6 of the 41 patients in the control group showed some slight improvement.
  • One man in the active group grew a full head of hair after being completely bald.

Many of our Optimal Health Network clients struggle with hair loss, so we decided to see if we could stop hair loss and regenerate new hair.

Meet Greta: How to Help Stop Hair Loss and Promote Hair Regeneration with Essential Oils

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL FROM GRETA: "My hair loss has just really, really slowed! I went from losing about 100 hairs a day to 15 or 20… I am amazed because I am rubbing over a white comforter cover, and I have maybe six hairs fall out. If I did that [3 months ago] I would probably have 20 hairs fall out, so it's really slowed down!... My hair's growing a lot faster than it used to and I am slowly starting to get more hair, especially around my hairline. It's really exciting!"

Optimal Health Network Hair Regeneration Oil Blend Recipe:
As explained in the video above, here's how to use this recipe:
  • Either use a small glass oil dispenser jar and mix a large batch for future use or mix enough for a single use in a small bowl (use a total of 8-10 drops of essential oil blend per scalp massage).
  • Combine the desired amount of essential oil blend with ¼ that amount of the carrier oil (for a 4:1 ratio). For example, if you mix a single use with 8-10 drops, you should add 2-3 drops of base oil. If you mix a larger quantity of 100 drops, add roughly 25 drops of the base oil. NOTE: Most base oils are difficult to measure in drop quantity, so an estimate is fine. Also, coconut oil may need to be heated and melted before mixing and before each use if it is kept at a low enough temperature.
  • Shake or the oils together to mix the recipe. If mixing single use in a bowl, use fingers to mix and apply directly to scalp.
  • Always mix essential oils with a carrier oil. Undiluted essential oils are too harsh on the scalp.
  • Apply the essential oil recipe to the scalp when the hair is dry for the best distribution.
  • Massage oil into small section at a time. Dip fingers into the oil mixture at the beginning of each section and when they become dry. (For detailed instructions and demonstration, watch the above video.)
As shown in the scientific study, this process is not guaranteed to work for everyone or for all types of hair loss. If you do not notice slowed hair loss and/or increased new hair growth within 3 months, consider a consultation with Kristina Amelong. Hair grows in three different cycles: anagen, catagen, and telogen. These hair growth cycles don't work well with hormone imbalance. Standard Process's Symplex F and protomorphogens and MediHerb's liquid herbs like Ashwaganda and Rehmannia, along with a therapeutic colon cleanse program, will help to balance your overall hormonal levels - pituitary, hypothalamus, progesterone, estrogen, etc - which all play a role in the hair cycle.

My Mind Meets Lake Superior

Lately, I've felt stressed out, overwhelmed, easily triggered into a deep sense of dread by tasks that I usually handle easily -- answering the work phone, making lunch for my daughter, doing the dishes after a full day -- all simple, often meditative tasks. I would try to remind myself to breathe more deeply or of how much I love this work of life -- helping people, parenting, keeping a house; but, I couldn’t shake the overwhelm.

Now, after five days on Lake Superior, I can reflect that I needed time away to do nothing. I hadn't had more than a few sustained hours away from work for over a year. Yes, I love my work and life, so I often do not get the feeling that I need a vacation, but my mind and soul were craving other things.

When time away on Lake Superior emerged as a possibility, I found it surprisingly easy to cover my responsibilities.

My partner and I jumped into my black Prius, packed up our kombuchas, sardines, wintergreen essential oil, pocket knife, and iPhones, and left Madison. Six hours later, we arrived on the shores of the immense lake, near the Devils Island sandstone sea caves in Cornucopia, Wisconsin -- with nothing to do.

What did I find? Simple beauty: the beauty of my toes meeting the lake as the surf came in and left, came in and left; the beauty of an aquamarine bug I'd never seen before crawling on my hand; of nothingness; of light meeting sand; of a daddy longlegs scurrying across a stone sculpture. I also found memory and transformation. I remembered when, as a child, I would pull those towering, thread-like legs off the beautiful brown body and I felt horrified, horrified that I could add to the suffering of the world. I shivered, and moved on, pleased at the changes in myself. Later that day, I found an amber moon, setting on the eastern horizon of the lake, becoming a glowing tooth and then dropping down to a pinpoint of light. Moon on Lake Superior. I had never seen the moon set in this way. Then, in turn, the Perseid meteor shower. Not even planned. (How did that happen?) Then, the Northern Lights, all in one night, as we sat on a deserted beach next to our campfire.

I like this thing called life.

Sometimes, in these pages, I find it challenging to really share the depth of healing that I'd like for everyone. Yes, enemas work. Daily, I answer the phone or read the emails and find the joy of a story that someone's life has been profoundly improved. Here is one such story I've recently been honored to hear:

"About 6 months ago, thanks to a few blogs and your informational website, my life has changed. Literally. Lost half of my colon and rectum from cancer. Life was miserable. With no holding tank, I lived on Imodium and just not eating, because I went to the bathroom for hours at a time. Anyway, I learned about your enemas and I have a life away from the restroom. If there is anyone you think I can help that is going through a rough time and is on the fence about enemas every day, let me know.

Now I'm able to get back in life. I am very grateful for your passion and willingness to share your knowledge. Cranked up my hobby band again. Thank you soooo much."

~ Bob S.

I wrote back:

"This is awesome, Bob. And any more details would be useful! I'm sure your story will make a difference to others. I'm so happy you found the enema!"

Bob replied:

"OK, kiddo, here goes:

Life was miserable after losing half of my colon and my rectum. Stage three colon/rectal cancer. With no holding tank (rectum), feces would ease out 24/7. Three to four hours at a time with a brief break. The area stayed inflamed from overuse. Sleep? Forget about it. Going absolutely crazy. Got to where I would not go anywhere. As grateful as I was for my doctors saving my life, I was just miserable. Was told the only option was a permanent colostomy. Tried all kinds of foods. High fiber to slow it down. Nothing worked. Was diagnosed with LARS (lower anterior resection syndrome). Imodium no go. Tried everything over the counter. No go. I didn't have loose bowels or constipation, just no holding tank. Like a Pez candy dispenser, just constant small pellet eliminations. Food in general would trigger bathroom duty. My record was 23 trips to the restroom in an hour and a half one Thanksgiving. My parents just hugged me and left crying.

Enough pity pot; let's get into solutions. The first enema I took gave me 23 hours of no bathroom duty. Yup, you read that right. Based on my experience, anyone that would benefit from emptying their large colon would benefit from what I call a proper enema. Was I scared to do an enema after the aftermath of chemo, surgeries, radiation, etc., etc., etc.? Sure, but I was desperate. A proper enema to me is as Kristina (angel with wings) suggests on her website. It gave sooo much information. I had never read that a daily enema was an option. Well, drum roll: I have done an enema a day for about five months, and guess what? No problems. Why? Beats me; I just did what was suggested. Bought a stainless bucket, quality surgical hose, and medium-size nozzle. Used salve, OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend, splash of Celtic Sea Salt, goat's milk soap, warm water, and my iPad (something to read). Forty-five minutes later, all done. As in 24 hours done. I use the 2-quart bucket.

Can you do an enema every day without problems? Absolutely. Just get the proper equipment (goes a lot faster) and the proper additives to the warm water. There are numerous additional positives to a clean colon. A little weird at first with the flow of water, however I don't even think about it anymore. A little crampy after all the solution is in, then as it starts coming out it's very cleansing. Has my life changed. Wow, wow, wow. Cruise, anyone? Pack the bucket and let's go. What can I eat? Anything. Do I get any sleep? Zzzzzzzzzz. Do I feel 20 again? Sorry, Charlie. I'm still 50 when I creak out of bed. Is my life perfect? No. Is it better? Way mucho. Best 45 minutes of the day.

Why am I writing this? I suffered almost two years before running across this website. I was desperate. Now? I have a life. You can do this. You can do this. You can do this."

~ Bob S. (have enema, will travel)

Yes, I teach people how to colon cleanse, how to relieve physical suffering, how to enhance their lives with an enema, how to feel better. And, I'd like to continue to grow this colon cleanse website to its full potential as a healing resource, to share within its pages the millions of ways there are to restore a body, a heart, and a soul. Yes, the enema, even daily, can restore a life and thus sometimes a soul, like time to do nothing but notice existence on a vacation on Lake Superior. How else do we restore, and grow, the many facets of our lives? Here are a few ideas. If you find time, please share your own journey.

Fibromyalgia and Emotional Stress

by Stephanie Carnes
OHN Contributor

According to the American College of Rheumatology, three to six million Americans have fibromyalgia and ninety percent of the cases of fibromyalgia occur in women. Below is a case study by Kristina Amelong that demonstrates how toxicity in the body can cause pain and emotional problems.

Case: Joyce, age 40, October 2001

Background: Joyce presented herself at the clinic with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel, a spastic bladder, intense carbohydrate cravings, anxiety, depression, a sleep disorder, and severe mood swings. Her bowels were moving only one to three times per week. Her mood and temper were at times extreme.

Sessions and Treatment Recommendations: During each of her weekly sessions, our work together included reviewing her eating habits. Originally, her meals consisted of cereal or toast for breakfast, a sandwich at lunch, meat and vegetables for dinner, and fruit smoothies and bread sticks for snacks. Each time I saw her, we would fine-tune her diet.

In her first colon hydrotherapy session, she removed 20 feet of stored stool in a 40-minute period. The bowel issues were taken care of within 35 days by using the OHC plan. Plus, her long term nutritional habits were refined and brought into sync with her lifestyle needs. She found that raw, grass-fed butter made a tremendous difference in her cravings for carbohydrates as well as in how she felt emotionally. She ate the equivalent of a stick of butter daily. Supplements were used to help her with the other problems; magnesium, an antioxidant, raw, organic liver, a probiotic, and cod liver oil.

This first round of treatments got her feeling 50% better. Three months later, after two fasts, she finally regulated her sleep schedule and was able to cry and rage a lot. She now spent 90% of her days with no pain. She has had to maintain a strict diet to keep her symptoms from flaring up. Her anxiety and depression were completely gone, and she found that if she gave herself permission to cry when she felt like it, she quickly moved through any mood swings.

Status (December, 2002): Approximately 90% of her problems are gone as she continues to maintain her new eating habits, to practice emotional release, and to take her supplements!

Herbs and the Stress Response

When discussing how to use herbs to build up your vital energy so that stress isn't tearing you down each and every day, we need to discuss adaptogens. Simply, an adaptogen is a substance that helps you adjust to stress. How do adaptogens work? Adaptogens work by normalizing body functions and strengthen systems compromised by stress; they are reported to have a protective effect on health against a wide variety of environmental assaults and emotional conditions, while they conserve energy within the body. The best effects of an adaptogen will only follow with continual use; taking an adaptogen is like putting a dollar in the bank each day.

In his well-known book, Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers: An Updated Guide to Stress, Stress-Related Diseases and Coping (Freeman 1994, second edition 1998), for example, Sapolsky examines how prolonged stress can cause or contribute to damaging physical and mental afflictions. His lab was among the first to document that stress can damage the neurons of the hippocampus.

At the Optimal Health Center, we work with a tool called the Adrenal Stress Index test, which continually points to stress as a cornerstone of most of the health imbalances that people come to the clinic to resolve. With the individual results of the ASI, we will recommend a variety of adaptogens - eleuthero, licorice, panax ginseng, rhodiola, and ashwaganda.
