Using Fleet Enemas for Your Colon Cleanse? Think Twice!

Fleet® enemas do not cleanse the entire colon.

Fleet enemas clean only the rectal area and (if you are lucky) the sigmoid area of the colon, so I do not recommend them firstly for this reason.

Fleet enema solutions pose a risk for serious health side effects!

Unfortunately, due to the broad influence of pharmaceutical companies, chemical laxative enemas are currently among the enemas of choice for most people. However, chemical enema solutions can cause serious health problems due to electrolyte imbalances, vitamin and mineral imbalances, and liver strain. This is the second reason why I do not recommend using Fleet or other chemical enemas.

On the actual product labels of these chemical enemas it states, "Since Fleet Enema contains sodium phosphates, there is a risk of elevated serum levels of sodium and phosphate and decreased levels of calcium and potassium, and consequently hypernatremia, hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, and acidosis may occur."

THINK TWICE before using chemical enemas. There are many safer colon cleanse alternatives available to you through the Optimal Health Network!

Reusable enema products are as safe and sanitary as single-use enema products if cared for properly.

What Fleet says about non-disposable enema kits:

"Q: What are the advantages of using a Fleet Naturals Cleansing Enema versus a reusable product?

A: Reusable enema products may not be sanitary and could be contaminated with fecal bacteria. Fleet Naturals is a hygienic, ready-to-use, single-use, pre-measured cleansing enema filled with an isotonic solution made with purified water."

Not only is reusable enema equipment more economical and less wasteful, but it is hygienic for repeated use if cleaned and cared for properly, as outlined below.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR ENEMA EQUIPMENT:

Use hot, soapy water with a non-chemical soap such as Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap or Young Living Thieves Cleaner.

To disinfect your nozzle each time, and your entire system as desired, use grapefruit seed extract and water, hydrogen peroxide and water, or any of the many other types of non-toxic disinfectants.

Prop the enema bag open. Crumple up a wash cloth or paper towel and stick it inside the bag. Take it out once the bag has dried well.

Hang the enema equipment, making sure the entire system dries out fully. Blow-dry the colon tube, hose, and bag if needed, especially in humid environments.

For added ease of cleansing, use clear tubing and silicone enema bags or stainless steel enema buckets.

Replace enema tubing frequently.

Use pipe cleaners and bottle brushes.

Inspect all enema equipment after cleaning and before next use.

The Enema Series: Our Best Colon Cleanser

Most of us are surrounded by an intense negativity toward colon cleansing. Unfortunately, enemas are where most of this negative attitude toward the colon cleanse lies due to a greater familiarity.

However, there is a long history of the use of enemas:
  • Ancient Mayan art shows us that the Mayans believed that there was benefit and wisdom to be found in taking enemas. (The Mayan civilization dates back to at least 1800 BC.)
  • The Ebers Papyrus, an Egyptian medical document dating back more than 3,500 years, includes written evidence that enemas were widely used in other ancient cultures. The Greek physician Hippocrates, referred to as "the father of Western medicine," also advanced the use of enema therapy.
  • Since the Age of Enlightenment in Western Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, Western culture has commonly used enemas to support health.
  • Dr. Max Gerson (German physician, 1881-1959) applied coffee and castor oil enemas to his cancer treatments.
  • Ayurvedic practitioners support the use of enemas (basti).
  • There is hardly a region of the world where people have not discovered or adapted the enema. Enemas are found in world literature from Aristophanes to Shakespeare, Gulliver's Travels to Peyton Place.
  • In Russia, there are many spas that give enemas. In the Caucasus Mountains, there are dozens of spas where enemas are routinely administered to treat digestive problems and other ailments.
  • Chemical enemas, such as the Fleet Enema, generally using monosodium phosphate in their solutions. The Fleet Enema does not optimize your health as the Optimal Health Network enema series does, because the latter is designed to boost immunity, clear the entire colon, optimize for healthy bacteria, and support the liver. Additionally, the Fleet Enema comes in a disposable squeeze bottle that is thrown away after use, contributing to a toxic world. Finally, the FDA has become aware of reports of severe dehydration and changes in the levels of serum electrolytes from taking more than the recommended dose of OTC sodium phosphate products, resulting in serious adverse effects on organs, including the kidneys and heart, and in some cases resulting in death. Serum electrolytes include calcium, sodium, and phosphate. According to the reports, most cases of serious harm occurred with a single dose of sodium phosphate that was larger than recommended or with more than one dose in a day. This is not the case with our therapeutic enema series, which does not use serum electrolytes to cleanse the colon like the Fleet Enema products.
  • Nowadays many OHN clients are successfully using enemas to support their health!
therapeutic enema series - cleanse your colon

Over these past 17 years working with thousands of clients, we at the Optimal Health Network and the Optimal Health Center can confidently say that you will almost always improve your overall state of wellness by taking a regular enema series to cleanse the colon.

Many people need more health support than they are receiving. According to the American Cancer Society, in 2010 American had slightly less than a 1 in 2 lifetime risk of developing cancer; for women, the risk is a little more than 1 in 3.

Best Colon Cleanse

ONE CLIENT'S EXPERIENCE WITH THE ENEMA SERIES

"I truly wish that everyone could experience the complete feeling of the enema series you prescribe. They wouldn't believe it!" — READ MORE

The best colon cleanse clears out the entire colon, supports the liver in its efforts to detoxify the body, encourages tissue repair, neutralizes toxins, feeds the healthy flora in the colon, and kills Candida and other parasitic organisms.

An enema series can meet all these goals when you are able to clear out the entire colon using three enemas in a row, which are outlined below.

WHAT IS THE ENEMA SERIES?

FIRST ENEMA:

Use 1-4 quarts of filtered water and a made-for-enema soap. To mix the soap and water, soak the bar of soap in high-quality water for 20-60 seconds to make a milky solution. While taking the enema solution in, massage the abdomen to receive the water with less cramping.

Our made-for enema goat milk soaps contain butyric acid, which is the main food source of the cells in the lining of the colon, supporting them to function properly and to maintain the integrity of the intestinal lining.

Butyric acid enemas can help to prevent or reverse colon inflammation associated with IBS, Crohn's disease, prostatitis, ulcerative colitis, and even chronic constipation.

Programmed cell death, or apoptosis, is a normal process in cells. For example, cells can undergo a process of self-destruction if their DNA is damaged so severely that they can't be repaired, or if there are too many cells in an area. Cancer cells, however, do not undergo apoptosis, and continue to multiply. In experiments with lab animals, butyric acid has been found to inhibit multiplication of cancerous cells in the colon and to stimulate apoptosis in these cells.

Our butyrate-rich Frankincense and Myrrh Goat Milk Enema Soap stimulates the colon without irritating it, optimizes healthy hormone levels, can help to shut down cancer cells without harming healthy cells, and boosts immunity.

Also butyrate-rich, our Chamomile and Sage Goat Milk Enema Soap promotes relaxation, regenerates nerves, detoxifies the blood and liver, optimizes healthy hormone levels, is antifungal, and stimulates the gallbladder.

If you take frequent enemas, rotate your made-for-enema soaps. Also, rotate the soap you use to bathe. Rotation of the soaps offers broader support of the body and helps you to avoid developing a sensitivity or allergy.

How to Use Enema Soap

SECOND ENEMA:

Use OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend mixed with a high-quality Celtic Sea Salt in the second enema in the series. The oils in OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend (citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, melaleuca, lavender, and myrtle) are shown to act together to encourage tissue repair, neutralize toxins, feed the healthy flora in the colon, and kill Candida and other parasitic organisms. These oils can also kill a flu bug before you even know you have it, reduce overall inflammation in the body, and improve metabolism.

The importance of rotation applies here too. If you take daily enemas, choose a few different oils. Beneficial oils and oil blends to use in the colon are:
How to mix the enema solution: Hold the salt in the palm of your hand or put into a small bowl, drop oil into the salt and then add this mixture to your enema water. Use 3-5 drops oil and 1 tsp Celtic Sea Salt to each quart of filtered water.

THIRD ENEMA:

Take a coffee enema as the third enema in the series in order to support the liver and increase your body's antioxidant production.

In short, an enema series is the most optimal way to cleanse the colon. It consists of three enemas, taken one after the other, each with a different solution.

TOXIN BINDERS

Chlorophyll Complex™ binds toxins tightly. Once coffee stimulates your gallbladder to contract and release toxin-laden bile into the small intestine, you want something where the bile duct enters the intestine to bind the toxins so tightly they will not be reabsorbed through the intestinal wall. Take a handful (about 5 to 10 perles) of Standard Process's Chlorophyll Complex, timed to precede the start of the enema by about 30 minutes. To order Chlorophyll Complex, contact the Optimal Health Network.

Seven Steps for Constipation Relief

Constipation is a bummer. Being constipated causes everything from bloating and gas to irritability to anal fissures. Let's explore some constipation solutions that work!

1. Keep track of your daily bowel movements. Better yet, make sure you're having a bowel movement twice a day! Yes, everyone is different when it comes to frequency, but if you aren't fully emptying out your colon at least once a day, you are constipated. Keeping track of daily bowel movements is the best cure for constipation. Why?

* If you don't know you are constipated, you can't do anything about it.

* A bowel full of a multiple days worth of stool is much more difficult to clear out.

* Not fully emptying the bowel daily causes the colon to enlarge, which takes a case of acute constipation and turns it into chronic constipation.

2. Drink a generous amount of quality water throughout the day. A good guide is a half cup of water every half hour. The colon depends on water in order to do its work effectively.

3. Make sure you have plenty of magnesium in your body. To determine your magnesium level, use the Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis. Magnesium is an important food for the colonic musculature. When the colonic muscle isn't well-nourished, constipation will occur. If you do find yourself constipated, take 1 to 6 reacted magnesium capsules at bedtime. You may want to increase the dosage by one capsule each night. Once your bowels are moving well, consider sticking to that dose for long-term constipation relief.

4. Take a weekly coffee enema. A sluggish liver leads to constipation. Taking regular coffee enemas supports optimal liver function, which in turn is an effective and inexpensive cure for constipation.

5. Truly, the best cure for acute constipation is to take an enema series. Cleansing your colon with a series of therapeutic enema solutions will give relief to the most stubborn case of constipation.

6. If enemas make you squeamish, use an orally administered colon cleanse detoxification product like Ortho Molecular's Ortho Core Restore Kit. This week-long colon cleanse aid supports whole body detoxification, restores overall health, and is an excellent cure for constipation.

7. Seasonally, work through a colon cleansing program such as is laid out in my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health: A Guide to Nutritional Therapy and Colon Cleansing. A toxic body tends to slow down the body's metabolic processes. We live in an increasingly toxic world, which means our bodies need extra support to do their work well.

Please contact us at Optimal Health Network if you need support to cure constipation.

Water Tips for Taking an Enema

by Kristina Amelong

Use high-quality water. Always remove the chlorine: reverse osmosis, carbon filtering, and distillation water filtration systems are a few choices.

Learn more about safe and unsafe enema solutions

Use a thermometer so you know that the water temperature is between 96 and 103 degrees Fahrenheit. If the water is too cold, you are more likely cramp. If the water is too hot, you could burn the tissues of the colon.

Add Celtic Sea Salt to your enema water to assist the body to maintain healthy electrolyte levels. Use 1 teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt per quart of water. To assure adequate levels of electrolytes in your body, have a hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) done seasonally.

Add essential oils to the your enema water. Using essential oils in your enema water will improve your colon cleansing experience; ample scientific evidence exists that the colon is a more effective delivery system for therapeutic agents than the mouth.

The colon can hold up to 4 quarts of warm water. When filling the colon with water, go slowly - close the enema clamp often. However, if you find your body can only take in 1 quart of water, that is just fine too. The smaller your body is, the less water you will be able to take into your colon.
